Child and Adolescent Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Specific Learning Disorder Psychological Assessments
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Specific Learning Disorders (SLDs) are common neurodevelopmental conditions that can significantly impact a child’s academic performance, self-esteem, and daily functioning. ADHD affects a child’s ability to focus, regulate impulses, and manage energy levels, often leading to challenges with organization, attention, and behavior in school and at home.
Learning Disorders—such as dyslexia (reading), dyscalculia (math), and dysgraphia (written expression)—involve difficulties in acquiring and using academic skills, despite adequate intelligence and instruction. While ADHD and SLDs are distinct conditions, they frequently co-occur, with research suggesting that 30–50% of children with ADHD also have a learning disorder. Additionally, many other anxiety and mood disorders can mimic many of these symptoms making accurate diagnosis challenging.

Who is Assessment Appropriate For?
- Full ADHD/SLD assessments provide objective data and diagnostic clarification to best help your child succeed.
- Some providers offer diagnoses based on brief checklists. These screenings may miss key conditions with similar presentations and are often insufficient for academic accommodations, 504 plans, or medication/therapy treatment planning.
- At Be Well, we offer comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based psychological assessments for children and adolescents age 6+ who have completed at least one semester of structured learning.
- Our assessments help address concerns about attention, academic performance, classroom or home behavior, IQ, and learning strengths and challenges.
- No referral is needed to get started.
What Will the Assessment Process Look Like?
1. Scheduling and Forms
After calling our intake coordinator (502-908-9410), you will receive email links to complete required paperwork. This includes helpful information about your child and a release to coordinate with their teacher. Once received, our team will contact you to schedule appointments and process payment. We prioritize timely scheduling and schedule most within a few weeks!
2. Parent Clinical Interview
Parent(s) will meet one-on-one with the clinician for a clinical interview to understand your child’s history and answer your questions. This can be held virtually or in person based on your preference.
3. Assessment Testing
Testing takes 5–6 hours total, typically split into two sessions to support focus. Testing is conducted in person at our Lexington office: 2201 Regency Rd, Suite 703, Lexington, KY 40503.
4. Report Scoring and Writing
Your clinician spends 2-3 weeks compiling information. Please note: all steps (forms, records, interviews, and testing) must be completed before report writing begins.
5. Feedback Session and Results
Once the report is ready, we schedule a parent feedback meeting. Your clinician will review the findings, personalized recommendations, and answer questions. Copies of the report will be mailed to your home and, if requested, your child’s school.
What Does Our ADHD/SLD Assessment Package Include?
Our assessment explores both Specific Learning Disorders (reading, math, written expression) and all ADHD subtypes. We can also include screenings for anxiety or mood concerns. Every minor ADHD/LD assessment includes:
- Review of records and teacher input
- Parent clinical interview
- IQ assessment (WISC-V)
- Academic achievement testing (WJ-V)
- ADHD-specific measures (NICHQ Vanderbilt and/or BASC)
- Additional screeners as needed
- Comprehensive written report with personalized recommendations
- Feedback session to review results and next steps
- 504/academic accommodation guidance (if eligible)

- Total Cost: $2,250 for children and adolescents.
- Flat Fee: This covers everything: interviews, testing, scoring, report writing, feedback, and coordination.
